2016 BATHURST 12 HOUR RACE - #B12Hr

PRESS RELEASE - 5th February, 2016 - Australian driver Scott Andrews has already shown strong form and true talent outpacing 5X German Touring car legend Bernd Schneider by a tenth of a second and ex Formula 1 star Mika Salo, on Day 1 at the 2016 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour Endurance race.

Andrews, driving the Performance West SP Tools Lamborghini Gallardo, alongside co drivers Nic Percat and Peter Rullo was impressive in what was the closest practice day in Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour history.

'initially we had a couple of minor niggles with the car in the first session, but we sorted that out and we pushed harder in the second session' Andrews said.

'Any time you can get to do laps around this place is awesome and the car felt great ... we are still working at it',

The team finished the day 16th outright overall with a best time of 2:05.041, Scott matching the experienced V8 driver Percat's times, with a 2:05.796 lap and outpacing 5X German Touring car legend Schneider by a tenth.

Bentley driver Steven Kane edged out Tekno Autosport McLaren driver Will Davison by less than one-tenth of a second to set the fastest time of the day. A 30-minute ‘happy hour’ at the very end of the final practice session saw Irish driver Kane jump to the top of the times with a stunning 2m03.233s lap.

Across all four practice sessions and nearly five hours of on-track action, the top eleven cars were covered by less than one second and the top 16 cars by under two. Seven different brands were represented in the top ten with Bentley leading McLaren, Audi and defending champions Nissan in the top four. Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari and Lamborghini also featured in the top-10 today.

'The result today was positive because I know we can run well on full tanks and we will push as the weekend progresses. We are competing against some of the best GT racers in the world and it is a challenge, but we are definitely chasing at least a top ten and you never know what can happen', a content Andrews added.
