Exclusive Autosport set the pace throughout the Formula Tour 1600 Series double-header weekend at Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Canada this weekend, 25th-26th July, thanks to Australian driver Scott Andrews and teammate, Parker Thompson.
The Exclusive Autosport duo locked out the top-two spots throughout practice and qualifying at the picturesque track but the team was left frustrated with a best finish of second for Andrews in Race 1 the highlight from the weekend’s results.
Andrews, who leads the US-based F1600 Formula F Championship Series, led a team 1-2 in the remaining practice outings before going on to take pole position for Saturday’s race. Thompson (17) was again second fastest ensuring an all Spectrum-chassis front row. Scott ended the 15-lap race in a fighting second while Parker was forced to retire halfway through the charge with a rare mechanical issue.
Scott’s pace saw him lead comfortably but the win slipped away agonizingly close to the checkered. Lapping traffic three laps from the end at the first turn, Andrews dropped a tire on the grass. The ensuing spin bent a push-rod on his car putting an immediate end to a dominating performance.
Andrews aid after the event, “I’m gutted that we had a potential victory snatched away so close from the end today. Overall our results as a team don’t reflect the pace we demonstrated in practice and in qualifying. Saturday’s podium was a positive but we set a high benchmark for ourselves thanks to the team’s pedigree.
“We’ll take the hardships from this weekend and move forward and continue to build on the foundation we put in place all season. I loved racing at Circuit Mont-Tremblant, it was my first time there but hopefully it won’t be my last. I really want to thank the EA team for all their hard work all weekend and all my partners who are making this season possible.”
“Both our guys drove well but we were just unfortunate to experience some of the things we encountered during the races,” explained Exclusive Autosport Team Principal Michael Duncalfe. “Looking at the positives we were fast each time out on track, leading the timed sessions. It was great to see the guys split the poles at Tremblant again showing how strong our program is and how even and equally prepared our cars are. While we certainly expected more than a second place podium this weekend, we’ll bounce back and have stronger results next time out I’m sure.”
